Blueberry Banana Hemp Smoothie

Here’s a simple recipe. And sometimes simple can be great. In fact, in the morning when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to slave over an elaborate meal, simple is definitely great.

I love the way frozen banana blends. The key to this smoothie is making sure your banana chunks are frozen through. They become the consistency of a delicious soft serve, with none of the gooey/slimy banana that you get with the fruit at room-temp. Blending them with blueberries and hemp makes it lusciously thick and creamy. Spinach also made the cut but you can’t taste it at all, I promise. Though with blueberries it does make the smoothie a cool grey colour.

The recipe as written will give you a thick smoothie, perfect for topping with granola and sliced fruit to have as a smoothie bowl. If you have a high powered blender you can probably get away with only 1/3 cup of milk. If you prefer a thinner smoothie to sip on, feel free to add up to 1 cup milk.

Blueberry-Banana-Hemp Smoothie

Makes 1 large smoothie

1 banana, broken into 1 inch chunks and frozen

1/3 cup frozen blueberries

2 tbsp hemp hearts

1/2 cup oat milk (or any milk of choice)

3/4 cup spinach

optional: protein power of choice

To serve, also optional: nut butter, seeds (hemp, chia, flax, peptia, sunflower etc), granola, sliced fresh fruit

Blend all ingredients together on high speed until completely smooth. Add more milk if necessary to help blend.

Serve as is or as a smoothie bowl with granola, fruit, nuts etc or just pour into a cup to sip on.
